The old storage deck consisted of a few pieces of plywood that had been laid across the ceiling joists.
This wall separated this section of the attic to the house. This exposed fiberglass does not do a good job of stopping air or heat loss from the home.
We built a new storage deck with walls to keep out the loose filled insulation.
Here you can see the loose filled cellulose that was installed outside of the storage area.
The wall that separated this attic section from home is now covered with our SilverGlo board insulation. This will stop air flow, increase the R-value of this wall, and reflect heat back outside during the hot summer months.
This attic was used for storage and had limited insulation. After we air sealed, we installed a 2 inch platform of SilverGlo board insulation where the storage deck was going to be. We then built the storage platform and the walls out of plywood. Underneath the plywood and foam board insulation, we dense packed cellulose insulation to increase the R-value. The remaining portions of the attic are insulated with a loose filled cellulose insulation.
