This building was typical to many of the commercial buildings we have in Maine. They install fiberglass insulation with a suspended ceiling underneath it. The suspended ceiling nor the paper facing on the insulation provide a suitable pressure boundary. Another issue is that you could not add loose insulation if you wanted to because there is not enough support to hold it.
The solution to this problem was to remove the ceiling grid and tiles and install SilverGlo under the rafters. Once this was completed we installed a new grid and reset the ceiling tiles. The American legion now has pressure boundary at its ceiling and can support additional insulation in the future. This will help them to reduce their heating and cooling costs, keep their guests more comfortable, and greatly reduce ice dams.
